Binding sound. Interior pages lightly toned but clean and unmarked. Two companion studies by Haldane Gee and collaborators at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography on the chemistry and bacteriology of sea water. "Calcium Equilibrium in Sea Water" presents six sections examining the theoretical considerations, experimental methods, and precipitation behavior of calcium carbonate in seawater, including a concluding contribution by the young Roger Revelle (later one of the pioneering figures in twentieth-century oceanography) on the precipitate obtained by removal of carbon dioxide. The companion bulletin, "Bacteriological Water Sampler," describes an instrument for obtaining uncontaminated seawater samples for bacteriological study.Contents: I. Theoretical Considerations, by Haldane Gee; II. Equilibration in Sealed Bottles Shaken at Constant Temperature, by Haldane Gee, David M. Greenberg, and Erik G. Moberg; III. Empirical Variation of Gas Phase, by Haldane Gee and Erik G. Moberg; IV. Apparatus for Eliminating Bacterial Activity in Chemical Studies, by Haldane Gee; V. Preliminary Experiments on Precipitation by Removal of Carbon Dioxide Under Aseptic Conditions, by Haldane Gee; VI. Report on Precipitate Obtained by Removal of Carbon Dioxide from Sea Water, by Roger Revelle; Bacteriological Water Sampler, by Haldane Gee; References.
