Bulletin of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Technical Series, Volume 3, No. 7 (pp. 145-190)… and No. 8 (pp. 191-200), issued together in a single cover as originally published. In Acceptable condition. Original pale green printed wraps show moderate shelf wear with several small nicks and tears along edges and creasing at corners. Covers with some soiling and mild toning. Ex-library: University of California library stamp and "GIFT JUL 7 1932" stamp to front cover, accession number "00488" inked at head of front cover, "Gee, H. et al., 1932" inked above title in an earlier hand, and a date-due slip pasted to inside rear cover (last stamped Jan 22, 1939). Binding sound. Interior pages lightly toned but clean and unmarked.Two companion studies by Haldane Gee and collaborators at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography on the chemistry and bacteriology of sea water. "Calcium Equilibrium in Sea Water" presents six sections examining the theoretical considerations, experimental methods, and precipitation behavior of calcium carbonate in seawater, including a concluding contribution by the young Roger Revelle (later one of the pioneering figures in twentieth-century oceanography) on the precipitate obtained by removal of carbon dioxide. The companion bulletin, "Bacteriological Water Sampler," describes an instrument for obtaining uncontaminated seawater samples for bacteriological study.Contents: I.
