The second edition, published in August 1898, very shortly after the first edition in July of the same year. With a note from the author on Royal Societies Club notepaper, tipped in to the front endpaper, dated September 15 1898, addressed to Colonel Mann and presenting a copy of the book. Colquhoun (1848-1914), an explorer and the first Administrator of Southern Rhodesia, was awarded the 1884 Founder's Medal of the Royal Geographical Society for his exploratory expeditions to Burma, Indo-China and southern China. Original navy cloth in bright condition, with gilt lettering to spine and upper cover and gilt decoration to corners; viii[iv], 398 pages, with four folding coloured maps (the final map with neat repair to verso), black & white illustrations and maps to the text - correct as per list, untrimmed Approx. 9" x 5.8".
