Clinical Management of the Transplant Patient

Solid organ transplantation is a well-recognized and common therapy for many end-stage diseases. The medical care of patients undergoing transplant is developing into a discrete speciality involving input from critical care physicians, anaesthesiologists and a variety of clinicians from both medical and surgical specialities.



This manual addresses the clinical management of the transplant patient from pre-surgical evaluation, through the peri-operative period, and into the recovery and follow-up phases of care. Each major transplant organ is covered with a common chapter structure covering recipient evaluation, donor evaluation, surgical procedure, post-operative management, complications, outcome and costs. There are also chapters on the important themes of immunosuppression and organ procurement.



The book forms a guide to good practice for all members of the surgical and support teams working in the transplant centres.
