He wandered, as a young man, across the Atlantic. He set out with a companion for Klondike, travelling as a stowaway on trains, missed his footing, and lost a leg. He came back to England and South-East London, lived in common lodging-houses, peddled laces, and gradually accumulated enough money to publish a small volume of poems. ***Mr. Davies settled down as a writer; he wrote, assisted by a generous introduction from Mr. Bernard Shaw, The Autobiography of a Super-Tramp, and his published volumes now number about fifty. ***Mr. Davies is astonished at everything that the rest of us take for granted. what to the rest of us is the first primrose of spring is to him the first primrose in all the world . In other words, he is a pure poet.' (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). ***Second impression of the true first edition thus - with a special introduction by Osbert Sitwell. Hard to find now complete in the original fragile 1940s wartime dustwrapper in such nice collectable condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 3760z
