946 pages, with index. Selections of literary and civic prose, and verse, from John Smith to James Fenimore Cooper - over two centuries. Trade paperback, front and spine creased, back rubbed, shelf-worn, 3/4" tear to front cover at bottom of spine. This 60-yr-old book has a slightly odd smell; none of the books it is stored with are musty, so I suspect this is from the aging ink or paper, but I mention it in case hypersensitive people would prefer to avoid. Book is 1-1/2" thick. "Compliments of Odyssey Press" label pasted on inside of front cover. Text clean and unmarked.

Berthoff Books sells books previously owned by the late Prof. Warner B. Berthoff, Professor of English and American Literature, emeritus, at Harvard University; the late Prof. Ann E. Berthoff, Professor of English, emerita, at U. Mass.-Boston, and members of their family. Some books contain highlighting and marginalia by the Berthoffs or other previous owners, which we aim to describe accurately.

Shipping terms
DOMESTIC SHIPPING RATES ARE BASED ON TOTAL WEIGHT OF PACKAGE AND FOR MULTIPLE BOOKS WILL USUALLY BE LESS THAN THE SUM OF THE RATES SHOWN PER BOOK.
Our standard domestic shipping rate is based on USPS Media Mail rates for the weight of a given package. Books are packaged in bubble-pack envelopes or a cardboard box with moisture protection. International shipping rates are based on shipments weighing up to 2 lb (0.9 kg). Heavier or oversized items may be subject to extra shipping charges. International Priority Mail shipping charges may be reduced on books that fit in a USPS small flat-rate box. International Standard (First-Class Package International) shipping charges may be reduced for a second or more books if the total package weight does not exceed 2 lb.
Shipping speeds are estimates based on carrier delivery times and cannot be guaranteed. If your order will pass through Customs, there may be a delay. Any applicable Customs duties or brokerage fees are the responsibility of the buyer.
