FIRST EDITION, pp. 271, crown 8vo, original tan cloth, backstrip lettered in silver, top edge slightly dusty, the dustjacket by Arthur Barbosa, small nick at head of front panel (a little creasing here also), a couple of tiny nicks at foot of same, but the backstrip panel in bright and unfaded condition as seldom found, very good. Michael Joseph, 1945, FIRST EDITION,pp. 271, crown 8vo, original tan cloth, backstrip lettered in silver, top edge slightly spotted, the dustjacket by Arthur Barbosa, backstrip panel faded to yellow as usual, a little chipped and rubbed to extremities, very good A pair that labours a point: the fact of the lettering for the author's name to the backstrip panel being orange is hard to appreciate without having next to its normal state (faded to match the yellow of its ground). In all, an outstanding copy (alongside a pretty good copy) of this wartime Hornblower novel.
