Second edition. George Macdonald Fraser's copy with his ownership signature on front free endpaper. From the library of George Macdonald Fraser with his bookplate, thence to his daughter, the author, Caro Fraser. Acquired directly from the family. The signature has a youthful styling and the Carlisle bookseller's ticket at the back, together with the well-loved condition suggests that this was a favourite book from Fraser's childhood. Nick Fraser, Caro's brother, mentions "[Kipling was] one of GMF's heroes and something he read to Caro when she was little". In 2014 Heywood Hill Ltd sold the working library of George Macdonald Fraser. The family chose to keep some books, including this volume. Other Kipling titles appeared in the Heywood Hill catalogue. The Complete Stalky & Co includes an extra five stories and four poems than the original 1899 Stalky & Co. It also includes illustrations by Raven Hill that did not appear in the original collection. 8vo., original red cloth gilt, rebacked preserving original spine, cloth rubbed and a little worn, spine sunned. A well-read copy.
