About this Item

Copper token, 29mm diameter, outer rim milled, edges lettered. Obverse sl. mottled, but sill a nice example with very little wear. A copper token, issued by Thomas Spence, depicting a bust of John Horne Tooke, facing right, with his name lettered around the perimeter, and also lettered beneath the bust, 'JACOBS, F.' (the engraver). On the reverse: A raised hand with a heart in the middle between a garland of laurel leaves and the word 'HONOUR'. Here the engraver is given as 'JAMES'. The rim is also lettered, 'Spence - Dealer - Coins - London'. BM 1855,1004.252, dated simply '18thC'. PLEASE NOTE: For customers within the UK this item is subject to VAT at 20%.
