From this base, the authors construct a model of interviewing and counseling based on the techniques that are effective in real-life encounters. They also include psychological type theory and explain how it can be used to improve a lawyer's communication, interviewing, and counseling skills.

Robert F. Cochran, Jr. is the Louis D. Brandeis Professor of Law Emeritus and the Founder and Director of the Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics at Pepperdine University School of Law.

John DiPippa is Dean Emeritus & Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy at University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law.

Martha Peters is an Emerita Professor of Law at Elon University School of Law.
