About the Author

Richard A. Peterson (1932–2010) was emeritus professor of sociology at Vanderbilt University. He was the founding chairman of the American Sociological Association's culture section. He was best known as a scholar of popular music, especially country-western music. Creating Country Music: Fabricating Authenticity has had a substantial influence on subsequent scholarship.

Established in 1979 with a medium size stock, shop is in North London less than half an hour from West End. We are open Thursdays to Sundays 10,30. to 6.30, but telephone and computer usually manned daily. Named after Thoreau's book, not connected with the American book chain. We do feel that actually being able to see the books one is browsing is what bookselling or buying is all about and all of the the books offered are from our shop stock and may be viewed during shop hours or by arrangement when closed. We also stand at occasional book fairs. Please note only a small amount of our stock is on the website, we have over 10,000 titles in our shop, please let us know if you need any other books.
