[History] SECOND EDITION. Quarto (39 x 29cm), pp.[6] 126; unpaginated glossary. Green quarter morocco, green cloth over boards. Red title label to spine lettered in gilt. All edges gilt. Seven illuminated initials at chapter openings, thirteen coloured lithographs many of which are embellished in gold leaf. Spotting throughout, ex-libris stamp to front paste-down, previous owner's name in black ink to pp.[1], wearing to base of spine. Very good. This most superb archaeological work is animated with numerous novelties, curious and historical disquisitions, and brilliant and recondite learning - Learning going to Court in the full, rich costume of the Order of the Garter. This is one of three volumes that is published, and is volume III in the collection. Throughout are 13 beautiful coloured lithographs many of which are highlighted with gold leaf.
