The work was published in eight volumes, the London views appearing in Volume IV, and it was dedicated to Queen Anne (her coat of arms appear on a number of plates). The plates are essentially small scale versions of existing images derived from such sources as Morden and Lea's "Book of Prospects" (1690) and "Britannia Illustrata" by James Mortier. Some of the views of Stately houses are borrowed from Kip.
