Fine 19th century binding of full dark brown polished mottled calf. Spine with raised bands, all ruled in gilt. Spine compartments double ruled and decorated in gilt. Green morocco title label, gilt. Boards with elaborate gilt borders. Board edges decorated in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. The binding is a bit rubbed to the edges but overall very good and, although unsigned, of a very high quality. With twentieth century FORE EDGE PAINTING of Tonbridge Castle in Kent. An attractive fore edge painting on a book with a beautiful binding.
