About this Item
Original poster. 77.5 x 53.5 cm., illustrated with 10 b&w photos/photomontages on purple in a white border, titles in purple, on white paper stock. N.p. [London], n.p. [privately printed?], n.d., c. 1971. £200 Very good condition, corners with slight creases. The photos largely depict Warhol in front of various gallery views of his work and also a number of billboards reading 'Andy Warhol not shot in London'. A rather macabre joke, relating of course to the assassination attempt on Warhol by paranoid schizophrenic, and extremist feminist,Valerie Solanas in 1968 in which the artist was shot and wounded. Buckle was an eminent, very irreverent, ballet critic and exhibition organizer. His ODNB entry notes that in 1971 he presented '.a gala at the London Coliseum featuring Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, and Zizi Jeanmaire, a group of retired Diaghilev stars, two newly written ballets, and designs by Andy Warhol. Intended to raise funds to save Titian's Diana and Actaeon from being sold overseas, it actually lost Buckle money'. 232637. Seller Inventory # 232637
