Item description from seller

A copy owned by the Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton with his book label on the front pastedown. Quarter pebbled brown morocco over blue marbled boards, marbled endpapers and marbled edges to the text block. Ownership inscription, probably preceding Shackleton's, of 'Ernest Noel' at the head of the title page. A little browning to the paper stock. An uncommon book made doubly attractive by this excellent provenance. Shackleton acknowledged the role of divine providence in his own later published account of his heroic voyage in 1916.
