Deadworld: Bits and Pieces

Long before there was The Walking Dead there was Deadworld. Here is a collection of short stories from the pages of Deadworld, one of the longest running zombie titles in the comics market. Deadworld has had over 100 issues and graphic novels released over the years and sold over 1 million copies.

A supernatural plague has been unleashed on the world. The dead return to walk the earth...but this is no standard zombie story. The dead are just soldiers for those who have crossed the Gateway. The lead zombies are intelligent, sadistic, and in addition to having a hankering for flesh, enjoy the tortuous ordeals they put the surviving humans through. Now seven wayward teens on a school bus, scramble to escape the zombie apocalypse. Little did they know that there were also intelligent zombies and they had a plan…and they had a leader, King Zombie.

Included in this 14 short story collection is the very first Deadworld story, "Black Sabbath", which introduced to the comics audience the hard biting scenes of zombies taking over the Earth. The classic tales, illustrated by the artist known as "the Deadworld artist", Vince Locke, are presented as an the introduction to one of Deadworld's most popular characters, the Dead-Killer. This proves to be a great collection piece for fans to discover the compelling need to feed on the saga of Deadworld.

Gary Reed has been the writer of Deadworld for about the last 75 issues. His series of the horror classic have earned numerous award nominations including three wins in the Ghastly Awards. Vince Locke was the original Deadworld artist and after leaving the book, worked on Neil Gaiman's Sandman before illustrating A History of Violence which became a feature film. Stuart Kerr was the original writer on Deadworld and along with Ralph Griffith, also created two other long running series, The Realm and Oz. Mark Bloodworth worked on the early Deadworld before winning a Ghastly Award for his artwork on Deadworld: The Last Siesta. Paul Daly has had extensive work in the role playing game field as well as lending his realistic style artwork to a number of projects. Galen Showman was the artist for Gary Reed's Renfield and also illustrated the Justice League's Age of Wonder. Troy Nixey, known for his Jenny Finn has moved into film making with the release of his movie, "Don't be Afraid of the Dark". Ron McCain was the first illustrator on the popular Dead-Killer character in the pages of Deadworld. Ron went to work on Batman after leaving Deadworld.
