Complete set of 9 volumes, as follows: Volumes 1-6 (published 1926 - 1932) : the main volumes, containing an alphabetical listing from A-Z and at the end of Volume 6 a first supplement (pages 273 -449), Volume 7 (published 1934) containing the index (by authors, initials and psedonyms) and the second supplement, Volume 8, (published 1956) by Dennis E. Rhodes and Anna E. C. Simoni, extending the coverage from 1900 to 1949 and Volume 9 (published in 1962) addenda to the above 8 volumes. The main volumes set out as comprehensive as possible a list of anonymous and pseudonymous works, arranged alphabetically by first word of title (ignoring definite and indefinite articles), giving for each item listed: title (sometimes shortened), size, paging, place, date, author's name, and (in some cases) the authority for attribution of authorship. This second edition set of "Halkett & Laing" remains much the best and fullest guide to the true authorship of works in English published anonymously or under pseudonyms, covering approximately 65,000 works. (A third edition was begun in 1980, but to date only the first volume covering works to 1640 has been published). A Good clean set, some slight rubbing and minor marks to covers, and some variation in the cloth colour between different volumes.
