A near-fine set of this superb private press edition, undoubtedly one of Ashendene's finest achievements. The font Ptolemy was created for this work and was based on the type used in Ptolemy's Geographia of 1482. Limited edition, one of only 225 copies; 2 vols, folio (43.5 x 32 cm); printed in red and black, decorative initials and borders designed by Louise Powell and cut on wood by W.M. Quick & Geo. H. Ford, original glazing wrapper partially preserved and inserted to rear of vol. 2, occasional spot or smudge, else unmarked internally; full dark green pigskin by W. H. Smith & Son, spine lettered in gilt in six compartments, text untrimmed, a touch of rubbing to extremities, spine a little faded, mild offsetting to endpapers, a few faint scuffs or marks to boards, otherwise a near-fine copy; xiii, [1], 268, [1]; x, 256, [1]pp. Hornby 36.
