Half title, front., plates, index, final ad. leaf. Orig. red cloth, lettered in gilt; spine darkened, a little dulled & marked. Blank bookplate on leading f.e.p. First published in French in 1908 as Sainte-H�l�ne, Les Derniers Jours de l'Empereur. A largely sympathetic portrayal of Napoleon during his final years in exile, which the author hopes will be eagerly received by an English public 'that no longer nourishes any hatred against Napoleon'. A statement on the titlepage announces, 'This work was crowned by the French Academy in their Session of the 13th of May, 1909'.
