New York Applause Theatre Book Publishers 1995 Bound, hardcover with original dustjacket (protected with removable cellophane), xxvii+414pp., 16x24.5cm., in good condition (dustjacket with a repaired tear of ca. 3cm., else fine). ISBN 9781557832269. This volume brings together, for the first time, the complete surviving screenplays written by Dylan Thomas for the British film industry. Edited and introduced by John Ackerman, it offers an important contribution to Thomas scholarship by documenting a lesser-known aspect of his literary career. This landmark collection presents the complete surviving screenplays of Dylan Thomas, revealing the Welsh poet as a gifted and versatile writer for the cinema. Written for documentary films, dramatic productions and government commissions, these scripts display the same lyrical imagination, powerful imagery and rhythmic prose that distinguish Thomas's poetry. Together they provide a fascinating portrait of his professional life beyond the printed page. The Complete Screenplays assembles Dylan Thomas's film scripts in chronological order, allowing readers to trace his development as a screenwriter during the 1940s and early 1950s. Many of these works were originally commissioned for documentary films produced during and after the Second World War, while others explore historical, social and literary themes. The volume includes editorial notes, textual commentary and contextual information prepared by John Ackerman, making it an essential scholarly resource. Beyond its documentary value, the collection demonstrates how Thomas adapted his distinctive poetic voice to the visual language of cinema, combining vivid description with dramatic economy. It remains the definitive edition of his screenplay output. Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) was one of the most influential poets and writers of the twentieth century. Born in Swansea, Wales, he achieved international recognition through collections such as 18 Poems, Twenty-Five Poems, Deaths and Entrances and Collected Poems, as well as the radio play Under Milk Wood. In addition to poetry and prose, he worked extensively as a screenwriter for documentary and feature films.…
