The second edition, after the first of 1796, in three volumes, 'with considerable additions.' Octavo (21.5 x 13.5cm). 'Treats of natural & artificial magnets and theories of magnetism, of electricity, electrical apparatus, animal & medical electricity, meteorology, light and optics in the first volume. The second volume is devoted primarily to chemistry, but includes hydraulics. Finally, the third volume deals with plants and animals, with a few plates dealing with vision and the eye. The fine engraved plates illustrate numerous mechanical phenomena as well as physics, electricity, metreology &c.'- Roberts & Trent. Bound in contemporary mottled calf, the spine in six panels with label, gilt. Neatly re-hinged, some loss to the spine gilding, but an excellent copy. Vg.
