FIRST EDITION, 52 photographic plates, 25 figures to the text, the odd faint spot to border, pp. xi, 48 + Plates, original bevel-edged red cloth, lettered in gilt to front and backstrip, t.e.g., numeral in ink at head of front pastedown, a few faint spots to endpapers, very good. An excellent copy of this celebration of an 'important feature of street architecture' - which restricts its attention to examples of good design, in the hope that the trend in that direction (against the 'quite disastrous' tendency for them to be 'left more or less to chance') should continue. The majority of those shown are in London, but there are example from Liverpool, Shrewsbury, Manchester and Bournemouth; Glasgow and Edinburgh shops stretch the classification beyond the parameters of the title, but not as much as the outlier in Brussels (Plate 51).
