The first collected edition. Folio. Large paper copy (46 x 31cm), one of 50 printed in this size published at £2 8s 6d to subscribers, the ordinary copies at half that price. Two parts in one, the second part, Reliquiae Spelmannianae, with separate register & pagination and occasionally not present but issued with the first part & requisite. 'A learned and ingenious observer on our ancient statutes'- Allibone, quoting Hargrave. 'Copies on large paper are very scarce'- Ebert. pp. [28],xxvi,1-38,[39-49],50-194,[168]; [xvi],256,[24]. With a frontispiece portrait & two folding genealogical tables plus numerous decorative head & tail pieces engraved on wood. pp.[39-49] in the first part printed on one leaf, as is correct. Bound in contemporary calf, the spine in eight panels with raised bands, gilt, neatly re-hinged and with new label, the boards with double line gilt border & blind-stamped design. Ownership inscription of William Davison to upper title margin, an earlier Davison inscription within title border, plus ownership stamp. Some occasional light foxing.
