Contemporary sheep (a few scuff marks on upper cover, tips of corners worn), rebacked, red lettering-piece, endpapers replaced. Bookplate of Richard J. Bennett. FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. See G&M 3365 (first edition, in French, of 1827): ?Saissy described a Eustachian bougie; he was probably the first to use this instrument. Besides dealing with the labyrinth, his book discusses diseases of the tympanum and Eustachian tube.? ?Saissy?s work on the diseases of the inner ear undoubtedly is the best of the period. Despite considerable shortcomings, it prepared the way for a more thorough knowledge of the pathology of the middle ear and the Eustachian tube? (Politzer, History of Otology, from a long discussion of Saissy?s book, pp. 282?284).
