1796, in Venezia, Presso Francesco Tosi, pp xiv, 342, [2], title printed in red and black, forty-one engraved plates of which twenty-six are folding, four plates are misplaced in the text, two have some unobtrusive repairs, bound in quarter cloth, paper-covered boards. First printed in 1740, there were several editions of this important guide book, of which this is the best, and contains the greatest number of plates. Our copy has one more than the forty that should be present. See Biblioteca Cicognara 4365, in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana.Leopoldo Cicognara (1767-1834), collected his judiciously comprehensive library of over 5000 books and pamphlets on art, architecture, archaeology, art history and criticism for the use of artists, artisans, scholars and art lovers. The library was purchased en bloc by the Vatican in 1824, where it remains as a collection. Binding rubbed and worn, some plates, carelessly folded, generally very good. Seller Inventory # 06991
