Contemporary half brown morocco over marbled boards, spine with raised bands and gilt-decorated compartments, one with gilt lettering, marbled endpapers, two polychrome silk ribbon page-markers, top edge gilt. Engraved portrait frontispiece and 92 full-page engraved plates (84 as called for plus 7 alternative illustrations of the same fables and one duplicate) and engraved vignettes at the head and tail of each fable. Minimal shelfwear, spotted throughout, overall a handsome copy. First published in French in in 58 weekly parts starting in November 1866, and first published in book form in 1867.
