Enlarged and revised edition of the first serious study of the authentic portraits of Mary Queen of Scots (1542-87), painted or engraved, based on the iconic collection of Prince Lobanov-Rostovskii (1788-1866), a fervent admirer of the Scottish queen who had already published a seven volume work of manuscripts, letters and imprints connected with her name in his possession in 1844.The present study is a catalogue of all portraits, painted or engraved, known to exist and exhibited at the Archaeological Institute of Edinburgh in 1856. Preliminary pages foxed owing to poor quality of paper.
