Item description from seller

Sole edition. 8vo. lxxxii, 406 pp. Publisher's dark green cloth, gilt lettered to the spine, recent bookplate to the front free endpaper, with loosely inserted an autograph letter signed from the author on headed paper, dated February 1906. 6 plates plus a colour folding map. Wear to the covers which also show some discolouration, hinges slack but holding. The letter is a response to a friend called Marshall who evidently resided in India. Scully expresses his longing to visit the sub-continent but, given the limited possibility of him undertaking such a trip, he welcomes "a letter from one actually there" as "doubly interesting". He moves on to other matters regarding mutual acquaintances but also gives a brief account of a month long trip to Kerry, some days of which he had hoped to explore the Dingle promontory and the "fine range of cliffs on Brandon mountain". Unfortunately he experienced very stormy weather and managed "barely two hours among the upper cliffs".
