Scattered spotting and occ. marks to contents and plates showing toning o/w. contents fine. Very handsomely bound in recent half-calf over marbled boards all in fine condition. The plates illustrate 10 different designs of hot-houses and hot-walls. Scarce An extensive and fascinating work on gardening, looking in particular at the growing of fruit and vegetables for use in the kitchen. Walter Nicol (1769 - 1811) was a Scottish garden and hothouse designer, who wrote several books on practical horticulture. He was employed at a number of estates in Scotland and improved the design and layout of gardens and glasshouses. Nicol is in particular responsible for the walled garden layout at Dalhousie Castle in Midlothian.
