The folio document is water-damaged on the right hand side, repaired, affecting two ms. entries. These documents appear to relate to two separate cases brought by Elizabeth Vane, but the three witnesses involved in the 1834 felony case are also listed as receiving compensation for court attendance in the 1835 housebreaking case. Before 1880 when the Office of the Public Prosecutor was established in England, the victim of a crime had to appear with witnesses before the magistrate in order to bring a prosecution - but were financially compensated for doing so, as these documents attest.
