Large 8vo., in full green morocco gilt, with raised bands and gilt decoration to spine, decorative gilt borders to both boards, a.e.g. [xii] + 803pp, indexed, with engraved frontis plus vignette to title page, many other engravings on wood and steel, including 8 double-page plates of the Heavens, moon and sun, 4 of which are in duo-tone, plus numerous engravings within text. Ink gift inscription dated 1857 to early blank. Foxing to endpapers, first and last few pages, plates, plus some occasional foxing and browning throughout; a few small marks to boards, edges rather rubbed. A Good copy overall. Canterbury is close to London (about 1 1/2 hours by train) and only 30 minutes drive from the Channel Tunnel. The Chaucer Bookshop is situated in a beautiful 18th Century building inside Canterbury's city walls. The building was originally one house but was established as a bookshop in 1956. The adjoining property was also later acquired and the bookshop greatly extended. Amongst the wide range of books (on 2 floors) you will find art, architecture, history, English literature, topography, travel, food and wine, railways and many more. We have a variety of original prints and maps for sale and a selection of modern First Editions and fine bindings. We also stock a comprehensive range of Fine Art greetings cards and wrapping paper.
