Very good. In a folding paper box. The second edition of Sprengel's history of the American Revolution, first published under a differing title in 1783. This edition has a larger map, but omits the plates found in that edition. The book was avidly read by the Rhinelanders as Hessian mercenaries returned from the War. The first German history of the American Revolutionary War. Sprengel (1746-1803) was a German polymath and geographer very interested in the history of the British colonies in North America and the War of Independence. His writings concentrated on the colonies, and the revolutionary events. Sprengel's books satisfied the increasing need of information about the United States and the new nation in Germany, especially after the return of the Hessian veterans, who fought in the Revolutionary War.
