First illustrated edition. Format, octavo, 208mm. Physical description, xii, [1] 2 - 219 verso blank. Top edges gilt. [41] illustrations in the text by Charles Whymper. Verso of front endpaper spotted and similarly at the rear. Publishers dark olive green cloth backed boards, rubbed and very lightly soiled, the upper cover blocked in blind and gold, the lower cover blocked in blind. Floral endpapers. Overall, a very good copy. Written anonymously. The first un-Illustrated edition was published in 1878. Sadleir 1307a.
