25 x 16.5cm. 693pp. One engraved plate. Hardback, contemporary full roan, all edges gilt. Presumably a limited edition. From the library of William Aubrey Darlington (1890-1979), forty years theatre critic for the Daily Telegraph, and author of the best selling 'Alf's Button', a humorous tale set in the First World War and other books. 'Alf's Button' was later turned into a play, a musical and (two) movies. A two-leaf folded sheet, 'Printed in England', is loosely inserted. Entitled 'Arms of James Darlington of Bourton Hall, Warickshire', it reproduces the orignal grant-of-arms, together with editorial comment; 'The chapter dealing with the Darlington arms, pages 48 to 50, should have contained an account of [these] arms, but by an unavoidable accident this was ommitted'. Included with this is an engraved plate of the arms in question. Also loosely inserted in the book, is a ( ? 19th century) manuscript extract of the will of Job Darlington of Darnell, Cheshire, 1733. Some staining to covers, joints and edges of binding rubbed, but sound. A nice copy internally. Hardback, contemporary full roan, all edges gilt. Seller Inventory # ch15.1671
