His father's wisdom taught him how to maintain solid faith amid doubts and difficult circumstances. Neither man writes as if he has arrived at a place of spiritual perfection. Without false emotionalism, both writers are transparent and honest, and each admits to his continuing struggles with doubts and disappointments. In the final chapters, Larry Jr.'s two grown sons also reflect on the words of wisdom of their father and grandfather.
