Four volumes, complete, in mixed editions, with volume I being the fifth edition (1958) vol II the second edition (1957) and vols II and IV first editions. All with VG+ price-clipped dust-jackets with some light dust soiling and shelfwear to head and tail of spines. Previous owner's name to ffe's of vol. 2-4. A very nice set of Churchill's classic work. Publisher's blue buckram bindings, gilt lettered and decorated, red leather spine labels. The cloth has some minor rubbing / fading, as often found with this edition. Similarly there is wear and slight lifting to one of the leather labels ( but no loss ). Corners lightly bumped, marks to some of the boards. Text blocks are all clean, sound and tight. "Churchill's last great work was published nearly 20 years after he penned its first draft in the late 1930s, just after wrapping up [the biography of] Marlborough. This enabled him to utilize the literary team he had assembled for the biography, to which he added dozens of outlines he had solicited from scholars.
