The dustjacket, of which this is a bright example, has, as usual, a section of a War Office map on its verso (here covering part of Southeast Asia). Russell's 'last major contribution to philosophy, [.] in which he developed at length his view that certainty in human knowledge was impossible and that the best to be hoped for was the probable truth afforded us by what he called "postulates of scientific inference"' (ODNB).
