GL 184, drawn on 25th September 1823. This, described here as an 'Old English Lottery', was organised by the economist Ricardo and all tickets were on sale on the open market 'all floating'. The lively advertisement printed on mustard yellow paper shows a figure with a large grotesque head such as those used in pantomimes. The demise of the lottery is often credited to Henry Thornton & David Ricardo; the latter died in September 1823. Seller Inventory # 60014
