[Poetry] FINELY BOUND REVISED EDITION, scarce. Octavo (22 x 14cm), pp.[4] x; 93 [5] 113 [7]. Contemporary panelled calf, speckling to outer section and tree to inner. Borders gilt-rolled. Black gilt-lettered label and tooling to spine. Original marbled endpapers and bookmarking ribbon. Errata and advertisements to rear. Interior remarkably bright and clean, still with the odd mark/spotting here and there. Front and rear blanks toned. Prize inscription in black ink facing title-page, ownership inscription to previous leaf, dated 1802. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Light rubbing to boards and spine, gentle bumping to extremities. Very good. Part philosophy, part poem, Polwhele meditates on why we prefer our own homes and localities to anywhere else - contemplating the way memory and nostalgia interplay with environment. A poem that was perhaps a by-product of Polwhele's love for his native Cornwall, on which he wrote extensively.
