Complete set advertised as 7 volumes; this lot lacks the final volume. Each volume is 5-3/4" x 8-3/4", printed on alkaline paper and bound in sewn signatures in red buckram boards with red / gold head bands and a white bookmark ribbon. Title block stamped in gilt foil on front cover and spine. Volume 1 (1980): The Origins of the Proletariat and its Evolution as a Revolutionary Class, 674pp + 2pp publisher's advertising. Volume 2 (1981): The Working-Class Movement in the Period of Transition to Imperialism (1871-1904), 654pp. Volume 3 (1983): Revolutionary Battles of the Early 20th Century, 710pp. Volume 4 (1984): The Socialist Revolution in Russia and the International Working Class (1917-1923), 750pp. Volume 5 (1985): The Builder of Socialism and Fighter Against Fascism, 757pp. Volume 6 (1987): The Working-Class Movement in the Developed Capitalist Countries After the Second World War (1945-1979), 694pp. Set is shopworn, with jackets in various stages of repair ranging from "good", with a few large tears and pieces missing from the back cover, to actually quite decent. Canada's oldest independent bookstore, the People's Co-operative Bookstore Association was formed in 1945 by a broad coalition of Vancouver's progressive movements, from trade unionists and Marxists to social democrats and Christian social justice activists. Owned and operated by its member-shareholders, it is a registered co-op operating under the Co-operative Associations Act of British Columbia. Anyone can join. Since 1983, the People's Co-op Bookstore has been located at 1391 Commercial, in the heart of Commercial Drive.
