John Steadman : Days in the Sun

Collected in John Steadman: Days in The Sun are some of the highlights from his time with The Sun - stories about superstars, fallen idols and unsung heroes, remembrances of good times and bad. Reading through these pages, one realizes what makes Steadman's writing so special - a rare gift for words combined with an understanding of the human spirit and insight into what drives an athlete to compete.

Steadman witnessed historic moments in football, baseball, golf, horse racing, boxing and more. He brings them to you here as only he could. He's been a baseball player, a PR man and an editor, but here you'll find him at his best, as a storyteller.

Brookes Robinson, former Baltimore Oriole and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame says "Once John Steadman said he wished he could write like I played third base. I told him it was the other way around. I wished I could have played as he wrote. That still goes."

Consider his background. Once a minor league baseball player (in over his head he says). Then an assistant general manager/publicity director of the Baltimore Colts -- when the franchise was being built into a two-time world champion. And for more than 50 years, a nationally recognized sports writer.

Mr. Steadman is the only Maryland writer to ever be awarded "The Best Sports Story of the Year." And in 1999, he was selected to the National Sportswriters & Sportscasters Hall of Fame in Salisbury, N.C. He is the author of six previous books, including The Best (and Worst) of Steadman, The Greatest Football Game Ever Played, Miracle Men of Football and From Colts to Ravens.
