Contemporary speckled calf boards, re-backed in the nineteenth century in straight-grained red morocco with gilt titles. Not a happy marriage of binding styles or colours. Wear to board edges and bumped corners; joints split. Fair. A cursory review published just 25 days after the publication of the great two-volume folio magnum opus. Stretching over 32 pages, its length is largely attributed to extensive extracts re-printed verbatim.
