Octavo; Second edition. Frontispiece, ixm[2],369p, 3 maps. Complete copy. School prize binding of half blue calf, blue cloth sides, the spine with raised gilt bands and red lettering piece. Occasional sl spots text. VG copy. Goodenough served in the Second Opium War and was present at the capture of Canton in 1857. He died of wounds received from natives' poisoned arrows at the Santa Cruz Islands. There are memorials to him in both London and Sydney.
