Journey into Rest-isn't this a contradiction? Is it movement and stillness that brings us to God? Effort or repose?
It is both, saints have answered through the centuries. Christian growth is always a step-by-step journey, a walk of faith, not a jet flight dictated by a timetable. For every person the resting places along the way are different. A Bible passage, a favorite hymn, a habit of prayer, a tradition of worship a place where they find God's undergirding strength. Resting in Him even as one journeys through downpour and drought, freeze and thaw is the secret of travel that does not weary, movement that is fixed on Him.
With wonderful spiritual insight, bestselling author Elizabeth Sherrill joins the reader on this road. Stepping into the unknown with Abraham, running the other direction with Jonah, learning the value of a detour with Moses, traveling a rough way with Joseph, going through deep waters with Noah these are only a sample of the profound meditations in this book.
Elizabeth Sherrill has published more that 1,000 magazine articles and over 30 "ghosted" books with sales in excess of 40 million, including OUR CHRISTMAS STORY (Mrs. Billy Graham),
Return From Tomorrow (Dr. George Ritchie), and
Breaking Points (the parents of John Hinkley). With her husband John she has co-authored
The Cross and the Switchblade,
God's Smuggler,
They Speak With Other Tongues,
The Hiding Place,
The Happiest People on Earth and
The Man Who Could Do No Wrong..
The Sherrills met aboard ship on their way to Europe and were married in Geneva in 1947. For four years they traveled and free-lanced books before joining the staff of GUIDEPOSTS magazine in 1951. In 1970 they founded a publishing company dedicated to developing new Christian writers, Chosen Books, whose first title was Charles Colson's Born Again.
The Sherrills have three married children and six grandchildren. Their work has taken them on year-long writing assignments in Africa, South America and Europe, as well as numerous trips to the near and far east. Elizabeth has conducted writing workshops on five continents.
John and Elizabeth live in New York.
