First printing of the true First Edition issued in an edition of just 150 copies. With an introduction by Helen Roeder. Small quarto. pp 82 + [10]; illustrations by Leslie Jones. Original pictorial cloth boards with contrasting coloured spine lettered in gold. Tips of corners rubbed, o/w a nice bright copy without inscriptions, etc. Another edition, with different design on boards, was issed in the same year in 200 copies. Reprinted for the first time from maaterial drawn from the Denton Welcvh Collection at the University of Texas. Text is set in Monotype Poliphilius and Blade Italic on Mellotex Cartridge. The Lion and Unicorn Press was founded in 1954 at the Royal College of Art, London. Named after the Festival of Britain's Lion and the Unicorn Pavilion, the Lion and Unicorn Press was established with the aim of producing finely designed and typeset books, illustrated, printed and bound at the RCA.
