8vo. 8.75 x 5.75 inches. xvi + Appendix, [4] pp. + 120 item figures with descriptive text opposite (i.e. 240 pp.). Bound in original blue cloth, gilt. A little wear to extremities, including corners and some foxing of flyleaves and title page; otherwise a very good copy with clean illustrations. Signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 8 plates in text, including frontispiece and by 120 plates in appendix. Well illustrated survey of the work of Staffordshire born engraver, Robert Hancock (1730-1817) and his work on Battersea and Staffordshire enamels and Bow and Worcester porcelain. At the Worcester Porcelain Works c.1756 to 1774, he drew and engraved plates for transfer-printed china. He left the company after a dispute and may have returned to the Staffordshire Potteries, later working in the medium of paper, concentrating on portraits and book illustrations.
