Six original linocuts (18 x 14.5cm; 15 x 13.5cm; 8 x 14.5cm; 7.5 x 12.5cm; 12.5 x 9cm; 10.5 x 8cm), each uniformly mounted to a contemporary card sheet (31.5 x 25.5cm). The linocuts remain in excellent condition with just a little faint foxing to the card mounts. WITH: 25 printed illustrations after linocuts by Rhodes, cut from the Catholic magazine 'The Sign', illustrating stories by Daniel B. Pulsford, similarly mounted to card, some with annotations verso; and a typed single-sided letter to Rhodes from the editor of the Catholic Times regarding illustration commissions. A group of six linocuts, including a splendid large nativity scene and a striking portrait of a young child holding flowers by the artist Cecil William Rhodes (1894-1970), a member of Eric Gill's Ditchling community during the early 1920s. Son of the architect John William Rhodes (1860-1943), Cecil William Rhodes studied at Goldsmiths under E.J. Sullivan and had his first picture exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1910. He later served with the Artists Rifles during the First World War, until he was invalided out in 1917. In 1923, he joined Eric Gill's community at Ditchling in Sussex, where he focussed on both printmaking and portraiture. Provenance: By descent from the family of Cecil William Rhodes.
