Large 4to. (28 x 19.5 cm). Publisher's original green pictorial cloth, upper cover with gilt vignette and gilt lettering, spine lettered in gilt, decorative patterned endpapers, all edges gilt. Each work with separate title-page. Profusely illustrated with wood-engraved drawings throughout, including full-page plates, one being a chromolithographed frontispiece. Some light toning and occasional light foxing, trivial shelfwear, generally a very good copy in the original cloth binding. A scarce combined large-format illustrated work from the late 19th century, describing journeys made through the wider Middle East area including Palestine, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon, comprising three separate volumes: 1) "Those Holy Fields": Palestine, Illustrated by Pen and Pencil Written by the Rev. Samuel Manning, this core section documents his 1873 journey through Southern Palestine and Judea to compare biblical text with real-world topography. 2) The Land of the Pharaohs: Egypt and Sinai, Illustrated by Pen and Pencil Also authored by Samuel Manning, focusing on the landscapes of Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula. 3) Pictures from Bible Lands Written by S.G. Green, covering adjacent biblical territories like Syria and Lebanon.
