FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. Hardcover. Boards are bound in green publisher's cloth with a stamped decoration boarding the front and back covers. Gilt lettering on the cover and spine. Frontispiece is an anatomy engraving in a sepia tone, with a tissue paper protective leaf. Illustrated throughout with black and white engravings of medical images and diagrams. Contains seven lectures by the author. Indexed. 277 pp. Per the title page: Dr. Peter Allen was a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh; Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, England; aural surgeon to, and lecturer on aural surgery at St. Mary's Hospital; aural surgeon to the Royal Society of Musicians; late surgeon to the Metropolitan Ear Infirmary, Sackville Street. CONDITION: This book is in overall very good condition with wear and discoloration to the cover and spine. Spine is slightly cocked, and most of the gilt has eroded, with chipping to the head and foot. Corners are slightly bumped and show some wear. 1/2" dent on the edge of the front cover. Front and back inner hinges are cracked, and there are some cracks throughout at the gutter with some exposed stitching, yet boards are firmly attached and binding is sound. Leaves have fairly evenly toned and some occasional foxing is throughout, particularly within the endpapers. Pages are clean without marginalia, except for a former owner's name written on the front flyleaf in ink, and a former owner's stamp that has been stricken, also ink. Bears purple stamp of former bookseller, "L.S. Matthews & Co. Medical Books, 2623 Olive St., St. Louis." Pages bear mild creasing at the foot within the introductory pages and several pages in the middle of this edition. Small wormhole within front flyleaf. Continuous dampstain at the foot that runs from about pages 41-78, yet the text remains uncompromised. A nice copy. Additional photographs available upon request. Full refund if not satisfied. Condition: Good. Most items will be dispatched the same or the next working day. A copy that has been read but remains in clean condition. All of the pages are intact and the cover is intact and the spine may show signs of wear. The book may have minor markings which are not specifically mentioned. A good condition hardcover book written by Peter Allen. This is a beautiful copy with intricately embosssed brown covers. Some dust marks and scuffing to covers and spine. Spine has a tear in the top around 4cm in length. Board corners slightly curled inwards. Internal contents are clear and quite bright and look excellent for the book's age. Page edges are decoratively coloured red. Binding is quite firm. A very stately old book. Seller Inventory # mon0022541000
